The origins of the Company date back to 1970 when Capital and Counties Limited (UK) acquired an interest alongside other European institutional investors in Real Property West, a real estate investment company engaged in the acquisition and redevelopment of retail and office assets in the Western United States.

In 1980, Capital and Counties Limited (UK) established a wholly owned subsidiary, Capcount America, in Atlanta, with the intent of further expanding the firm’s presence in the US market. In 1986, Capital and Counties Limited (UK) acquired full ownership of Real Property West and merged its two US entities to form Capital and Counties USA. At the same time Liberty International acquired Capital & Counties Limited (UK).
